Better late than never - This Is How Much I Made As A Full-Time Freelance Writer In 2021

In the better late than never department, in the interest of transparency, I’m going to go over what I made as a freelance writer in 2021.
If you want to read past editions of this type of post, here is the 2020 version and the 2019 blog, “This Is How The Sausage Is Made Or How I Can Make A Living As A Freelance MMA Writer.”
If not, here are past numbers:
2018: $55,856
2019: $39,615
2020: $33,862
2021: $55,101
Not all of this is MMA related income, but it is all freelance related income. Right now it looks like 2022 will be in the $55K ballpark as well.
So, there you go.
Some art
This is from Henry Koerner from 1958. As soon as I saw this, thanks to a post from the Swans’ Michael Gira, I got a Robert Williams / Joe Coleman vibe.
A podcast
Want to hear George Saunders discuss a scene from “Victory Lap”? Even if you don’t think you want that, you do, via Book Exploder podcast.
Some fiction
Well, you might as well read the entire story from Saunders
Some non-fiction
An interesting story about the different types of rats and dealing with them. From the New Yorker in 1944
Thirty-two Rats From Casablanca - by Joseph Mitchell
Something to watch
The Ringer had a good story about this, but here is the video from Warren Zevon’s final appearance on David Letterman’s “Late Show.”
Something to listen to
I don’t know if this is my favorite Zevon song, but I think it is one of the best representations of what he delivered as a songwriter.
