Okay folks, here’s the thing. Things have gotten a wee bit dicey around here. One of my freelance gigs is on hold (for COVID-19 and is likely never to return). Another of those gigs cut my pay by about 3/4. Neither of these is Bloody Elbow.
So that leaves me in a bind — a huge bind. However, I see this as a tremendous opportunity. I want to leave those two gigs behind and stop producing “content” and start producing things that I want to do. Hopefully the things I want to do will also be things that people want to read…and that’s where you all come in.
I will probably keep this Substack thing going, but I will also do something with Patreon. The big reason for
this is Patreon allows me to have different and lower priced tiers for paid content. With that, at UFC 251 I will roll out some different content and different pay tiers.
The tiers will be $1, $3, $5 and $10. With each of those tiers, subscribers will get different levels of content.
I will still stay with Bloody Elbow and continue to do the same work there that I have been doing, but I’m hoping that the Patreon will allow me to shed the content I’m producing at other sites and focus more on more important stories that I think will benefit the MMA world.
Here is what I’m looking at:
$1 - Sup - Early access to podcast and newsletter as soon as I complete them. That’s usually around 10 p.m. ET. Free content goes out at 6 a.m. ET the following day.
$3 - Get some culture in your life - Everything from the $1 tier and at least one post per week that has some suggestions for what I guess I’ll call culture. Photographers, writers, artists, films, comedy, quotes, etc.
$5 - Solid - Everything from the $3 tier plus video content after events, such as UFC 251 in 5 minutes and UFC 251: Usman vs Burns in 5 minutes. Where I break the event and important fights down in 5 minutes. These will be more than recaps, they will look at the type of things I cover in the podcast and newsletter.
$10 - BMF - You’re just super cool and want to support me and my work and allow me to stay fiercely and proudly independent. Eventually this will be a tier where I hope to have long non-MMA interviews with MMA folks. Kind of like what Marc Maron does. This will hopefully be the “This is not an MMA podcast” thing.
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please let me know and I hope you support me and not crush my already fragile and crumbling self-worth and ego.
