Dana White Is Fed Up With Wimps And Weaklings
Or Maybe It's Time To Treat The Beef-Brained Big Boy With Less Deference
Welcome to the latest C’mon Now newsletter. This is the place where I’ll share my thoughts on all the goings-on in MMA. Those thoughts could range from media criticism to advice for folks looking to get into MMA writing to why certain fighters or managers are not good for the sport.
Today it’s all about Dana White’s rant against the MMA media

UFC president Dana White, who totally doesn’t care what the media thinks about him, vented about the MMA media during a recent Instagram Live talk with UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
“Think about this: Go online and look at some of these people – and this isn’t a knock, this is just a fact: The weakest, wimpiest people on earth cover the biggest, baddest sport on earth. What do you expect them to say? What do you think they’re gonna say?”
The reason the beef-brained big boy railed against the media? Well, because some folks had the audacity to suggest that maybe White was putting his fighters in danger by insisting the UFC would hold fight cards while every other sport had paused or was about to suspend games.
This is White playing to his base. When White dismisses the media, it allows the certain group of folks who look up to White to take the same stance. In White’s mind, the MMA media should serve the UFC as PR and to even think about questioning the self-described fight genius, well that offense won’t stand. Therefore UFC fans feel comfortable booing the media member who asked about coronavirus at the UFC 249 pre-fight press conference. This is the reason that fighters feel comfortable saying “fuck you” to a media member or telling a media member they won’t answer a question because they don’t like the person who is making the inquiry.

White knows what he’s doing here. He’s sending a message to the fans to hate the media, while telling the media that they need to fall in line — that they aren’t meeting his standards.
If the MMA media thought White appreciated them, well, now they know he doesn’t.
I hope this will be a turning point in the medias relationship with White. I’m not saying everyone needs to get out the pitchforks, but maybe White’s words will give some folks the gumption to be a little more probing, a little less trusting, a little more antagonistic when they are speaking to a man, who is often just saying stuff.
