It’s easy to become disenchanted while working in MMA. Some of it has to do with the nature of the sport, especially when it comes to the UFC. If you’re casually watching the events and don’t get close to the curtain that hides the machinery that makes the organization run, you might be fine. I understand those who peek behind the curtain, see the killing floor, and then decide they don’t want to get too involved with that aspect of the sport. It’s easy — and maybe smart — to take a go along to get along approach to covering the UFC. It’s kind of like buying meat at a grocery store. We all know the horror of how the product got there, but many don’t want to think about it, because to do so would force some serious self-examination. I get that, but that’s not me.
And so, not a day goes by, where I don’t think about bagging this whole thing. Sure, it’s how I make a living and over the last couple of years that’s been a decent living, but it’s not like I couldn’t make the same amount — or more — in a different gig. But I always leave the plug in the outlet and stick with it.
